The Oldest Living Albatross in the World
Albatross es are known for their long lifespans, which can exceed 50 years. They are majestic birds that mate for life, as far as scientists know. They also spend about a year raising their chicks to fledgelings, longer than many other birds. The albatross is a beautiful and fascinating bird, so much so, that there is actually a bird known to be the oldest living albatros in the world. Her name is Wisdom, and she is not a zoo inhabitant, but a free flying bird living in Hawaii. Wisdom is thought to be 60 years old, given that she was banded in 1956 when she was about 5 years old. She’s still going strong. Wisdom is thought to have accumulated over 3 million flying miles, or 6 trips to the moon and back. She, like all albatrosses, is thought to have mated for life. Her mate was also spotted with her last year.
