The Joovy Caboose Ultralight – Safe , Economical and Easy to Push!

December 24, 2011 at 1:04 pm • Posted in ParentingComments Off

I’m the mother of twins and one of the smartest moves I made was to purchase a Joovy Joovy Caboose Ultralight. My kids are almost 3 years old and I’ve had the stroller for 18 months or so. I find that both my children have plenty of legroom and the stroller is super easy to push over any kind of terrain.

While I wanted a stroller which was reliable and safe I also wanted one that I could afford. I don’t have a lot of disposable income so the price of the Joovy was what eventually won me, since it ticked all the other boxes as well. It’s got an effective lock on the back wheels to prevent the stroller from moving when stationary and a lovely swivel action on the front wheels to allow turning in small areas.

Don’t worry about being able to fold, unfold or store the stroller. The mechanism for folding is very simple and there is no risk of getting your fingers caught. It’s just a bit heavy to lift at around 30 pounds.

I have a medium-sized car and it fits nicely in the trunk. If you’ve got a compact or small vehicle, just double check that the folded stroller will fit in your trunk. I always seem to have lots of stuff with me when we go out so I make good use of the cargo basket below the back seat.

If it’s sunny, I can deploy the front canopy to keep my little ones shaded. A convenient see-through window allows me to see my child in the rear seat and for them to turn and communicate with me as well, just like the Joovy Big Caboose.

I forgot to mention one feature which is important. The design of the stroller, with an elevated rear seat means that the little one in the back still has a good view of the world.

What is Bloons 2?

November 13, 2011 at 9:09 am • Posted in ParentingComments Off

Bloons 2 is an addictive balloon popping game that was developed by Ninja Kiwi. It offers 8 areas to explore and 96 levels. Each level has a different and unique layout. To progress in Bloons 2 you must shoot down balloons. To do this, you use a monkey that throws darts at the balloons. As you make your way through the game and the various levels there are many interesting types of balloons along the way. You help the monkey aim the darts that he throws by using the mouse on your computer. You can also tell the monkey how hard to throw the dart by holding down your left mouse button to power it up. To advance in levels you must aim and shoot a certain number of balloons on each level using only a limited number of darts. The fewer darts you use to pop the required amount of balloons, the higher your score will be for that level.

One of our au pairs is a really fantastic baker! We did not even realise that she makes the most lovely cupcakes until she just presented us with them one day. They really are exquisite, and the children loved the brightly coloured ones that had their names iced on them. They were really pleased, and it was really nice to see them look so happy. Now we are asking her to teach them how to cook some really simple things for a bit of extra money. The children have said that they want to make us dinner next week, so we will see how that goes. I know she will be in there helping them so all will be absolutely fine. She works so hard and we really appreciate everything that she does for us. She is a really great worker, and we think she is really wonderful for the children.

First Step into Growing Up

August 8, 2011 at 2:40 pm • Posted in ParentingComments Off

Potty training, also called toilet training, is the first step towards independence. The right time to start differs from one child to the other. Parents should first decide whether their child is ready to go through this process. Starting too early will only lengthen the process. Parents should be very patient and encouraging and should make toilet training time fun and interesting. Putting too much pressure on the child will result in their resistance to potty training. Choose a comfortable potty chair to begin with. Set a routine to use the potty everyday. Teach them the process step by step. Preparing a chart and giving rewards and incentives will make the process easier for the parents and interesting for the kids. Some children develop a habit of withholding their stools. The main reason for this may be painful bowel movement or any medical condition. Try to find out the reason behind this and treat appropriately. The gentleness, love and patience of the parents play a major role in the success of potty training.

My parents had been married for 30 years. They just told my brothers and I that they were going to look for a Florida divorce lawyer. We were almost shocked. I thought that my parents had a happy marriage because they always seemed like they loved each other and that they got along very well. They were very calm when they told my brothers and me about getting a divorce. They said that they were just not happy living together and being married anymore. They said that they were still going to be friends and that we had nothing to worry about. It makes me feel very sad. All of these years I thought that everything was okay and now I feel like I believed a huge lie. It makes me wonder if any marriage can even be successful. It makes me wonder if I can have a successful marriage.

Don’t Let Your Children Push You to Your Limits

June 23, 2011 at 8:11 am • Posted in ParentingComments Off

One of the challenges every single parent has, especially single mothers, is the fact that children will push you to the limit. This is part of their growth and you should not let it get the better of you. You should have a set of house-rules in place; put somewhere that they can be seen so that there is no excuse for breaking them. You should also have a set of disciplinary measures that you can put into place as and when called for, depending on the infraction. Be firm when chastising your child, but never break their spirit by running them down. Explain that they have broken the rules and that actions have consequences. By enforcing your rules with love, you will be teaching your child that they have to respect others and will instil in them a healthy set of morals and ethics that will stand them in good stead in life.
